The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) “Polish-Lithuanian Cross-border Functional Area” limited liability was established under EU Regulation (EC) No 1082/2006, based on the Convention signed in Puńsk on November 20, 2023.
The EGTC represents a formal partnership between 9 Polish municipalities and 3 Lithuanian districts, creating a unified framework for sustainable regional development, economic integration, and social cohesion across national borders.
Supporting, promoting, facilitating and deepening Polish-Lithuanian cross-border cooperation to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the EGTC operating area. Managing the Cross-border Functional Area comprising the member territories.
Lithuania: Municipalities of Lazdijai, Kalvarija, and Vilkaviškis
Poland: Municipalities of Giby, Jeleniewo, Krasnopol, Puńsk, Rutka-Tartak, Sejny, Sejny City, Szypliszki and Wiżajny.
The Observatory addresses a critical challenge in cross-border governance: the absence of coherent, comparable information about functional connections between territories.
