Research Centre
Our Research Centre showcases the Observatory’s role as a catalyst for generating new knowledge about cross-border dynamics. Beyond merely collecting existing information, we actively commission, conduct, and coordinate research that addresses critical knowledge gaps in understanding Polish-Lithuanian territorial cooperation.
🔍 Research Approach
Our research activities serve multiple purposes within the Observatory’s mission. It addresses knowledge gaps where existing information proves insufficient for decision-making. It explores emerging phenomena that established data systems haven’t yet captured. It tests assumptions about cross-border dynamics, validating or challenging conventional wisdom. It develops new methodologies for understanding territorial complexity.
Our mission emphasizes participatory approaches, ensuring that territorial stakeholders actively shape research questions and contribute local knowledge. This co-creation model enhances both the relevance and legitimacy of research outputs, fostering evidence-based policy that reflects territorial realities and aspirations.
Based on EGTC strategic objectives and emerging territorial challenges, our research agenda focuses on critical issues affecting cross-border development and cooperation.

📈 Ongoing Studies
CLLD-oriented facilitation of cross-border planning across the Polish-Lithuanian Functional Area (2024-2025)
The primary objective is to boost the potential of the EGTC ‘The Polish-Lithuanian Functional Area’ territory through joint functional area-related activities and multi-governance development based on the principles of a CLLD approach. Through three interlinked specific objectives, the action seeks to create a more integrated and cohesive Polish-Lithuanian functional area governed by the EGTC, where cross-border cooperation becomes a natural and effective way of addressing shared challenges and opportunities for territorial development across the borderland.
